Here you can read a little about what I’m doing and have done, and maybe get a glimpse of who I am as a person. Enjoy!
I started doing theatre when I was 11 years old. I joined a local theatre group in my hometown and was there introduced to the life on stage. I stayed with that group for 6 years, but before leaving I had started to become familiar with the professional side of theatre as well.
When I was 15 and going in to High School I chose school that had emphasis on Music studies. The plan was to attend that school for a year to develop my singing further, but as my interest in different areas of music grew, so did my desire to learn more. Instead of changing to a new school and study Drama for two years, as I had planned, I stayed at Greåker High School and studied music for three years.
Once college came peeping around the corner I was determined to get accepted to the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and study acting, but after having completed a rather poor audition I felt a want to continue my music studies and had the choice between going to the Evangelical Lutheran University College in Oslo or the Conservatory of Music in Stavanger. I went for Oslo and studied there for one year deepening my knowledge in music as well as growing more secure in my christian faith.
Even though I enjoyed music and was eager to learn more, I knew that theatre was the place I wanted to be. My passion for theatre never weakened and though my studies were mostly focused on music my past time and «professional» life was centered around theatre. I had, during my time in High School, figured out that I wanted to direct and that I eventually was going to go down that road. But first I wanted to become an actor.
As part of the course in Oslo it was mandatory to do 3 weeks of interning with a congregation. After talking to some of my teachers I got in contact with a congregation in Deerfield, IL and went there to work with and learn from them. This trip was my first time in the US and became the reason why I that same year applied for The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I knew it was about time to take the first step on the path of my theatre education and training and what better place to do that than New York, NY.
I was accepted to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and went there for 2 years.
I’m pretty sure I could write a book about my two years at AADA, but all in all it was an amazing period where I grew both as an artist and as a person. The people there, both students and faculty, all made an imprint on my life that I will never forget - not to mention it made me a damn good actor!
While doing the exam plays at AADA I was struggling with the choice of staying in New York or going back to Norway to pursue a degree in directing. The choice fell on Norway and I left New York in April 2010. Though I didn’t pursue a degree in directing I started on the path of completing my BA in Theatre Studies at the University of Oslo, which I finished spring 2011.
Currently I’m working as an actor, doing projects on a regular basis. I’ve also started producing projects on my own which I will either act in or direct – the first production will go up in Januray 2012. In addition to this I’m trying to get approved for my work visa so I can move back to New York – hopefully sometime during the summer of 2012.
